If you are a British Citizen or have Indefinite Leave to Remain, and are engaged you can apply to bring your fiancé(e) or proposed civil partner to join you in the UK to enable the marriage or civil partnership to take place.

The requirements for this type of visa are very similar to those for spouses and civil partners but in addition, evidence has to be provided to prove to an Entry Clearance Officer that the marriage or civil partnership will take place during the initial visa period.

A successful application will mean that your fiancé(e) or proposed civil partner will be granted a 6 month visa to enter the UK and your marriage or civil partnership must take place during this time.  Whilst on the fiancé(e) or proposed civil partner visa, your partner is not entitled to work.

After the marriage has taken place, an application can be made from within the UK to switch onto the 5 year spouse/civil partner route and if successful your spouse or civil partner will be granted an initial 30 month visa, during which time they will be allowed to work if they wish.

If the marriage or civil partnership does not take place during the first 6 months ‘good cause ‘  must be shown as to why and a further 6 month extension would need to be applied for.
