A new series of hoax calls is taking place up and down the country, in time with the 31 July due date for payment of the semi-annual tax instalment.

The caller represents themselves as being from HM Revenue and Customs’ debt collection section and claims that HMRC is considering legal action against the person called because tax arrears have arisen.

A telephone number is provided, which the person can call to ‘make payment of the back taxes’. If you receive such a call, do not reveal any personal details to the recipient.

You can report such calls to the Action Fraud website, or you can call them on 0300 123 2050.

If you have concerns regarding the issues raised above, contact our team on 0121 698 2200 or fill in our online enquiry form.
