The Furlough Scheme and support comes to an end on 31 October 2020 and as a result of that we are seeing an increase in the number of Redundancy cases and Settlement Agreements being offered.

It is vitally important that you receive the right advice when entering into the process of redundancy – many factors need to be taken into account, not only from the employers point of view, but also from the employees.

It is no surprise that Coronavirus has had a profound effect on businesses and consequently its employees.  There have been many announcements already where companies are reducing their workforce and are already in the process of mass consultations with unions and employees, as a result of reduced sales, work and contract cancellations caused by the impact of Covid-19.

Businesses need to ensure that they are following the correct process when it comes to redundancy as it can prove costly when they get this wrong.  It is no surprise that the increase of enquiries that Sydney Mitchell is receiving is down to poorly run redundancy process and the incorrect treatment of individual employees.  No-one is going to be happy about redundancy, but the way you approach it will leave a lasting impact on those affected.

“Don’t sit with your head in your hands when your business is struggling, get advice at the outset so that you get it right.  The same applies to individuals, the impact is devastating and when the processes are not followed, it can be doubling to the stress caused.”

Attached is a downloadable briefing sheet; this is only a guide and employment law advice should be sought before you start the process, as getting it wrong can be very costly.  Not only to your business but also for the employees involved.
