The rules that govern applying to bring adult relatives to the UK on a permanent basis are very strict. They apply to parents, grandparents, siblings over the age of 18 or children over the age of 18.

In addition to the standard suitability requirements having to be met, which deal amongst other factors with criminal and immigration history; the rules require that:

- due to age, illness or disability the Applicant  must require long term personal care to carry out everyday tasks (like washing and dressing).

- The Applicant must be unable, even with the practical and financial help of the sponsor, to obtain the required level of care in the country where they are living, because

(a) it is not available and there is no person in that country who can reasonably provide it; or

(b) it is not affordable.

This is a very high test and considerable evidence has to be provided in support of any application.  In addition to the above the UK Sponsor would also have to show that they can maintain and accommodate the Applicant for 5 years without relying on any public funds.
