Legal advice for GP's
GP Consortia
Sydney Mitchell's team of specialist Healthcare lawyers led by Tony Harris is already giving advice to GP Consortia as to the terms of the Constitution even though this is largely at the present time unknown territory and there are more questions that answers.
The Constitution and supporting documents need to deal with matters which need careful discussion and agreement between the Partners of the various GP surgeries eg; should each surgery have one vote or should voting be weighted according to the patient list of each surgery and/or the number of GPs or GP Partners per surgery?
We can assist with these and other difficulties and challenges that are about to arise in these matters.
GP Partners must also be aware of the likely need to vary their existing Partnership Deeds to take into account the effects of GP Consortia on their own Practices and Partnerships. Again we can advise on these matters.
Sydney Mitchell’s team of specialist healthcare lawyers can offer value for money legal advice to GP’s, on every aspect of their practice.
Business Issues
Over the years Sydney Mitchell has worked with a number of practices to check partnership agreements are up to date. Your partnership agreement should be flexible enough to cater for modern ways of working, for example job share and paternity leave. Sydney Mitchell is pleased to be able to offer GP’s a free health check on partnership deeds. Our team will check your partnership agreement and advise you of any areas where you may be left open to risk or uncertainty.
We can also help with acquisition/disposal of a practice and forming GP consortia. If you need advice on any area of business law, contact Sydney Mitchell.
Property Issues
Tony Harris and the healthcare team are pleased to offer a free health check on the property deeds of your practice. In our experience it is not unusual to find the names of ex partners or deceased partners on the deeds, which can leave the partnership in a vulnerable position.
Primary Care Centres
Tony has many years experience working on new Primary Care Centres. Dealing with them from Greenfield Site through to practical completion, all the complexities involved and assisting GPs throughout the whole process. We have experience in dealing with Developer led, GP led or LIFT projects.
It is, in our opinion, vital with regard to new PCCs that GP Partners receive specific and detailed advice as our commercial experience with developments has been invaluable to GP Partners, particularly in the Multi Use Developments and also in stand alone PCCs where the building is shared between different GP surgeries and a pharmacy.

What our clients say.
"Riverside Medical Practice approached Tony Harris a couple of years ago, following a recommendation from another General Practice, to act on behalf of the Practice in our attempts to provide new surgery premises in Shrewsbury. In the subsequent months, he has worked diligently on our behalf in a proactive and professional way, negotiating with both our Developer and with Shropshire Primary Care Trust. His legal knowledge as well as his commercial expertise has proved invaluable at this time."
Dr M C Lovett (Partner) and Mr M J Cousins (Practice Manager), Riverside Medical Practice.
