About Nigel Mears

Nigel specialises in resolving financial settlements often involving substantial and complex asset structures. He ensures that when difficulties occur that sensitive advice is given and positive action undertaken in order to protect clients' interests. He is mindful of the need to seek sensible solutions during times of uncertainty and change.

Throughout his career, Nigel has endeavoured to work closely with private client, corporate and litigation teams to ensure that a clients' personal circumstances are expertly dealt with and that solutions are implemented using a multi-disciplinary approach. He also strives to maintain a coherent approach by supporting existing professional relationships with other non-legal advisers.

Nigel fully realises that family breakdown is not solely about financial issues and has been concerned to advise sympathetically regarding concerns over children and to seek workable solutions. Although contested court proceedings are not unusual, the first objective is to seek a cost effective solution and to strive for a negotiated settlement based upon expert advice and experience.

Nigel has an interest in pre and post nuptial settlements as part of a structured matrimonial settlement.

What our clients say

“I will for the remainder of my days be grateful to Nigel Mears. I salute Nigel and the professional way he handled my ‘unique’ family law proceedings. Nigel sought facts and set ‘legal’ course to seek justice on my behalf which was ultimately achieved. Nigel’s unique sharp witted sense of humour allowed me to laugh and lighten the load during the ‘darkest’ phase of my proceedings. Nigel is extremely balanced, logical and wise and never gave me false hope but he did give me wise legal counsel , and mapped out my legal options at all stages. Ultimately we had possibly the best example of teamwork with me providing raw data and Nigel editing and shaping to a legal standard. Thank you for all your work Nigel as I said on many occasions ‘Family Law’ must be the hardest legal sector to work in. With the passage of time I am sure I hope to put this period way behind me”
