The Innovator Founder Visa is designed for both new and seasoned entrepreneurs seeking to establish and manage a business.
It serves as a replacement for the former tier one entrepreneur visa. Applicants must either be starting a new business or working with an existing business that has not yet commenced trading.
What are the requirements?
Applicants must have approval from one of the UKVI authorised endorsing bodies, hyperlink, and in order to obtain endorsement, applicants will need to have a business idea which is:
- Innovative – a new, original business idea
- Viable – have potential to grow but with a realistic business plan for development
- Scalable – have a clear plan for growth and job creation.
To give flexibility and attract business and talent to the UK:
- There is no minimum investment requirement unless the business idea particularly needs a cash injection in order to get started There must just be enough funding available
- The endorsing body will need to make contact with the business on a minimum of two occasions at 12 and 24 months for progress to be reviewed. Individuals must demonstrate they will have day to day involvement in carrying out their business plan
- Secondary employment is permitted as long as it is not at a skill level below RQF level 3 (generally equivalent to A-level).
Applicants must also be:-
- The sole founder of the business or a key and contributory member of the founding team
- Over the age of 18
- Able to speak, read, write and understand English to a certain level and also have sufficient savings to support themselves in the UK.
Following a successful application
If granted, a period of three years leave to remain is given, which can be extended or if eligible may be able to apply for indefinite leave to remain.
Dependant partners and children can also apply to join the main applicant if they are eligible.
