The EU Settlement Scheme required all EEA nationals living in the UK to register under the scheme and allowed EU citizens to apply for pre-settled or settled status, which granted them the right to live, work, and study in the UK.
Registration under the scheme has now closed unless there is a very good valid reason for making a late application.
What is pre-settled and settled status?
Pre-settled status is granted to EEA nationals who have lived in the UK for less than five continuous years.
Settled status is granted to those who have lived in the UK for five continuous years and granted them the permanent right of residence.
After twelve months of settled status, you become eligible to naturalise as a British citizen, subject to meeting other requirements – see our information on Citizenship.
If you have pre-settled status, this may be automatically converted to settled status after five years’ continuous residence in the UK, giving you indefinite leave to remain. You can apply for settled status before your status is automatically converted if you believe you are eligible. Contact our team if you believe you would like to discuss your eligibility.
What If I do not already have pre-settled or settled status?
Unfortunately, the deadline for most people to apply under this scheme closed on 30 June 2021. Though you may still be able to apply if you have reasonable grounds for the delay in your application and strong evidence.
If you do not meet the requirements for pre-settled or settled status, we can assist you in other visa routes, such as the family visa or skilled worker visa.
Do we offer legal aid?
We do not offer legal aid, but can represent you on a fee paying basis if you do not qualify for legal aid.
