Domestic abuse is a profoundly serious and distressing issue that affects countless individuals and families.
If you find yourself in a situation where you are the victim of domestic abuse you often need swift and expert advice.
We are dedicated to providing a safe, supportive, and confidential environment where you can openly discuss your concerns and explore the options available to you.
Injunctions
There are two main injunctions that can be obtained if you are suffering from abuse. Abuse is not exclusively physical but can extend to psychological, emotional and coercively controlling behaviour including financial control.
Non molestation order
This is put in place to stop the person who is perpetrating the abuse upon you from harassing you or using, or threatening to use, violence against you or your child.
Occupation order
These enable you to have occupation of your home to the exclusion of the person who is perpetrating the abuse.
What happens if an injunction is broken?
If a non-molestation order is broken this is in fact a criminal offence and the police have the power to arrest a perpetrator simply for breaking the order and bring them before the court.
An occupation order can have a power of arrest attached to it allowing a police officer to arrest the other person for breaking the order even if there is no criminal offence.
If you have concerns relating to issues of domestic abuse and you believe you need an injunction, we are able to advise as to the likely outcome of any application made to the court and furthermore, make any such application as is necessary and represent you throughout the proceedings.
If you or someone else is in danger
Call 999 and ask for the police.
If you can’t talk and are calling on a mobile, press 55 and your call will be put through to the police.
If you’re calling from a landline and don’t speak and the operator can hear only background noise, they’ll put you through to the police.
You can report domestic abuse to some forces online. Your report will be handled in the same way and treated with the same importance as if you’d called.
