Refugees can apply for their pre flight family to join them in the UK. Pre flight means direct family who existed at the time the refugee fled his or her country of origin.

The direct family members include a spouse/civil partner or unmarried partner (who has lived together for 2 years pre flight) and children who are under the age of 18 at the date of application.

The requirements are to show the relationship, that the relationship existed pre flight and that the relationship continues to subsist. There is no requirement to show adequate maintenance or adequate accommodation.

However, any new family members such as a new post flight spouse, newly born children, children over the age of 18 at the date of application or for other relatives, different immigration rules apply and additionally will also have to satisfy the maintenance and accommodation requirement.

If you believe you may be eligible to apply for family reunion or unsure if you qualify, please contact our team to assess your situation and advise you of your options.
