Criminal Injury Compensation
CICA
Claims usually need to be brought within TWO YEARS of the assault. Claims are handled by a government funded body, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA).
Cases normally need to have been reported to the Police. Whilst the attacker does not NEED to have been convicted of assault this clearly helps prove your case.
The CICA pay out compensation on a fixed scale which can be less generous that the courts in other types of accident claim. Our What's It Worth calculator DOES NOT APPLY TO CICA claims.
PERSONAL INJURY
Claims for personal injury are assessed on the severity of the injuries and a tariff applies, starting at the minimum of £1,000 up to a maximum of £250,000.
LOSS OF EARNINGS AND EXPENSES
Any victim prevented from working becuase of injury for over 28 weeks, following a criminal assault, may also claim for their loss of earnings from the 29th week. Compensation may also be payable for certain other unusual expenses.
You should check with us before taking any action that might compromise your potential claim. PLEASE NOTE: the figures on our What Is It Worth crash test dummy do not apply to CICA claims who operate a different scale.
